How to evaluate a patient with multiple injuries

There are several systems uses in the hospital to evaluate the severity of a injury. but most of time we use Injury Severity Score which is also known as Trauma scoring. This type of analysing give the correct method should use for the treatments. In short term we called them as HTI (Hospital trauma Index)

There are 6 grades in a Hospital trauma index which will explain the severity of the trauma

0 = None
1 = Minor
2 = Moderate
3 = Major but not life threatening
4 = severe, life threatening, but survival possible
5 = Critical, survival uncertain

As you can see this traumatic conditions are very exciting for all the hospital staff. You should be quick and precise to get a good decision.

Sample HTI chart is below

Sometime there are multiple injuries which will not tell the correct severity of the traumatic condition by using AIS or HTI. In this situation the result should consider for some extend and go for the correct prognosis Until you recover the full condition.
In practicle life there are three condition levels we consider as

1. death rare in any patient under the age of 50 if the score is < 10
2. Mortality 4-30% depending on age is survival 10-20 score
3. Only rare survival in exceptional circumstances and with prompted treatment If the score is >50

Always we should not stick to the HTI chart but monitor the patient properly and always for a better treatment.

Most common Head injuries

The quick procedures should carry out if the patient is having  a head injury.

1. Most of the time if the patient is unconscious you should carry out a intubate otherwise the patient will  suffer from hypoxic condition.
2. a suitable neurological test should carry out using Glassgow Coma Chart or any other suitable chart.
3. If there is a evidence of high inter cranial pressure  further procedure should carry out with CAT

All head injuries should be carry out with extra care because this may be a life threatening condition.

Disease Conditions in Bones

Fractures are the most common conditions occur in Bones. There are two type of fractures in daily life.
1. Simple fracture
2. Compound fracture

The primary aim of treating fractures are

the attainment of sound bony union without deformity and the restoration of function then that we can able to get rid of his or pain and get in to his normal life.

Most of the time internal fixation of a fracture can give rapid healing other than ordinary treatments so we would be able to heal them as soon as possible.
But in most cases the treatment is not compatible with the fracture so this will give a wrong outcome.

How we can give the priority for treatments -
First we would suggest that this fracture was by patients sole condition or by external effect. If it is by patient's sole compliance we can proceed without any delay. Because we can collect enough information by patient him self.
Also if the patient is unconscious we would have to be more careful Because this can be due to effect of skull or spinal code. If the situation is similar to above mention we should treat for them as soon as possible before going for other treatments.

If there is no any other nervous damage we should immediately see weather there is a respiratory  obstruction occurred or not. If so we should clean the obstruction as soon as possible to get his or her breathing pattern in to normal. Most of the time this is due to vomiting of the patient if it is the problem we should lie down the patient left side so the vomit particle can be remove easily as the stomach is in left side of the body.
If you found any damage in to the lungs you should immediately go for a underwater seal or other wise he or she can suffer from tension pneumothorax.
If you found a evidence of pneumothorax you should drain the liquid by water draining method.

In the next post I hope to talk about Head injuries ....

Human Skeletal System

Human Skeletal System and disease conditions
Human skeletal system can be divide in to 2 other major divisions -
1. Axial Skeletal system
2. Appendicular Skeletal System

Axial Skeletal System

As it name describes it represents all the bones in axial of the body. Some of them are Skull, Vertebral Column, the hyoid bone, hyoid bone and ribs. We will talk about the other parts in a future post.

Appendicular Skeletal System
In briefly this will contain all other skeletal bones which are most of time located periphery to our body
such as Upper and Lower limb bones and pelvis like bones.

Do you know ?
What is the hardest tissue in the body?
It is tooth

So in the next post we will talk about the born formation apposition and deposition

Systems of Human Body

Major systems of human body contains -
1. Cardiovascular system (CVS)
2. Digestive System
3. Muscular System
4. Skeletal System
5. Nervous System
6. Respiratory  System
7. Urinary System
8. Endocrine System
9. Immune system (lymphatic system including)
10. Reproductive System

In the next chapter I would like to talk the Skeletal System which dare our body weight like our farther.

Do you know how important is your health?

1. Do you have any idea about your main systems of the body and their functions?
2. What are you going to do if you face to an life threatening emergency situation?
3. What are the serious disease conditions and how are you going to overcome with them?
4. Do you know how important is your heart and vascular system?
5. Do you know how important is your skeletal system?
6. Weight loose and weight gaining

I am going to talk in detail about the all questions mentioned above. As my opinion these are the major health related question and answers you MUST know. These questions may be useful for a anyone from child to grown  one.

But you may ask Who are you for us to teach this questions and answers....
Don't worry Ill explain them all.

Hello,
My name is Wasantha Peiris from Italy and now I am studying in University of London Queen marry at UK. This is my 4th year of medicine course which is also known as clinical year MBBS part2.
I have several experiences working with major NHS (National Hospital Services) in UK including Royal Hospital London, King George Hospital 7 kings and many more...
I think that may enough about my self. So we will go to talk about the more information about our major systems in the next post.
